yesterday i picked up richard thomas' 'what my ears can see' 7" on
leaf. wow. how come nobody told me he was so good? :) it seems i've
been pretty lucky with my purchases recently; that & mouse on mars'
'instru:mentals' -- anyway, i haven't been so drawn into a record in a
long, long time. i recall seeing richard thomas being compared to sun
ra ('the welsh sun ra' from what i recall) & for some reason, i kept
putting off listening to his stuff because i thought the comparison
_had_ to be dodgy. & sure enough, he doesn't sound like sun ra -- but
he probably smokes the same stuff. this is basically, er...
dsp-conscious jazz? i wouldn't know how to describe it. it's
completely nonstandard though. anyway, just buy that 7" when you see
it, there's 8 tracks on it & it feels great from start to finish.
speaking of which, anyone with some richard thomas recommendations,
please forward them this way.
hah, & also, i found not one, not two, but THREE old funksto:rung 12"s &
ended up buying 'elektromotor' (the one that has the word 'tecno' on
it). of course it has no label or catalogue information but i suppose
that was an acid planet release. anybody help me here? they also had
musik aus strom 11 & funksto:rung 13 (both on acid planet) if anybody's
interested. (also saw lp5 on 12", aemic 'beta' 10" & all sorts of other
semi-rare goodies on vinyl. if you're craving for them i can go buy
them for you & trade them for something.)
have a nice day,
