chester, what you've got is the Suppose x100 record by thomas brinkmann. it's a really interesting record -- thomas talked to me at length about it in the interview that's forthcoming from urban sounds (www.urbansounds.com). basically, the visual pattern of the grooves (2 intersecting coils, one beginning from the edge and moving inward, and one vice versa) drove the creation of the record -- that is, the music was entirely a vehicle for the production of that visual pattern. i'll leave it to thomas' interview to exlain how he managed to do that... sonically, i think it's a pretty amazing record. anyone who's into the really abstract panasonic stuff -- especially mika vainio's "O" material, with its off-kilter overlapping tempos -- ought to dig it. i recommend sitting in a darkened room with the music really, really loud. it really changes the entire space of the room. philip sherburne
