Hi all.
Speaker update:
As you may recall, I asked for suggestions for some IDM speakers
after the demise of some cheapies I had had for years. I ended up with a
pair of Definitive Technology bipolars made in Baltimore, I believe. Each
one has a 300-watt subwoofer. In-F****ing-Credible!!! I'm using large
bore speaker wire for the first time too. IDM has suddenly become 3-D and
crystal clear.
_This is an open invitation to any IDM subscribers to come over and check
'em out._ I live in New Orleans.
Music:
I gotta sing the praises of two really nice dubby comps.
Universal Egg --- Twelve Inch Combination (chapter 1) [Echo Beach]
inc
Trancemasters
Knights of the Occassional Table
Extramedura pka Diatribe
Conscious Sounds
Sounds from the Ground
Zion Train
The Tassilli Players
The Power Steppers
and
v/a: Dubbed Out In DC [eighteenth street lounge music].
inc
Thievery Corporation
Thunderball
Liftoff
Kevin England
Peace Bureau
While to some extent both are fairly predictable in their dubby rhythms
and toasting/samples, each of the comps is top of the line in their use of
various techno, ambient, and even housey elements. This kind of stuff
would definitely please the original dub fathers, and this stuff might
make some folks actually dance! The Dubbed in DC comp is put together by
the Thievery Corporation. This stuff is funky, trippy, and junglish at
times with more than a little of a cool techno undercurrent.
Both Recommended!
Happy Hollandaise!
Happy Mr. Hanky Day!
