My pleasure. I won't really get into the art aspect of
the event, even though alot of it was pretty cool.
First on was Divine Styler, they performed as a five
piece band. I thought the acoustics of the room made
their performance sound kind of bad. Maybe the other
people that were in front of the speakers should
comment on them. I was busy talking with Anthony
Shakir during their performance. So I'm not the best
one to review them.

John Tejada spun after them and I was very impressed.
The last time I saw him spin he played alot of really
great Balil, lush Detroit techno, and tech step drum n
bass, but that was at a small club, O2. So that is
what I was expecting to hear. Instead, he played some
really awesome minimal techno and his mixing was very
tight. I remember he played the new Cari Lekebusch on
Hybrid, the new Conceiled Projects (Adam Beyer) on
Code Red, Cytrax 08, some Red Planet, and then started
edging into the Detroit techno. I remember hearing a
very small part of Inner City - Good Life for just a
VERY short while. Some of the people that have seen
Tejada spin a few times in the past said that they had
never heard him spin so well. It was a very impressive
set!

Anthony Shakir took the decks after him. The first
couple of tracks he played were sort of vocally house
tunes. He did some cool mixing and tricks. He also
threw on Inner City - Good Life. Shake then put on two
copies of a Basic Channel record and was going nuts on
the mixer. He was going back and forth, scratching,
back and forth, and played around with the two copies
for a while. He also did doubles of other tracks, such
as Shake's track - "The Floor Filler" (Frictional 06),
Alan Braxe's - Vertigo (Thomas Bangalter remix), and
some other tune that sounded like Jeff Mills (I'm
pretty sure it was). He also threw down some more of
his tunes such as "Plugged In" (also from Frictional
06), "Fact of the Matter" and "Travellers" from the
Tracks For My Father ep on 7th City (SCD 008). He
played a very cool electro track from The Advent, and
even an old as dirt track from Heaven 17. He had
incredible mixing skills! I think it was a little too
much for the dancefloor, because more people stopped
dancing and started watching him go nuts with the
mixer and tables.

My friend Eric later commented that he thought Shake
was the best mixer he had ever seen. His only regret
was that Shake didn't play more electroish stuff
(because that is his favorite style).

After the event, about 6-7 of us hung out with him.
And he told us about his music, the Detroit scene,
etc. He is a really cool guy and funny as hell. The
whole night was a great time.

My friend Ben was asking Shake about Da Sampla stuff.
Shake said, that he didn't like his tune "With A Piece
Of Ice" (which appears on the Claude Young - Dj Kicks)

and that he didn't even own a copy of it. He did say
that he was going to do a Da Sampla lp. I don't think
it's going to be in the same style as the earlier
stuff. I don't know maybe it will.

I definitely can't wait to hear more stuff from him.
The Waiting For Russel ep (Frictional 08), and Tracks
For My Father on 7th City are SO GREAT!
