well, im going to have to join the ranks of people that consider the flanger
album to be the most boring piece of idm since bola thought he could put out
a full length (sorry, i only thought that album was really good the first
two times i had to sit through it, it's dated, and not too good).
the strange thing is that i fully agree with arthur on track 6, full on
scientist, if the whole album sounded like that, it'd be very good.
actually im going to keep the album just because of track 6.... other than
that, i thought the rest of the album just sounded like boring jazz
noodling... and it's fully obvious what flanger are trying to do with their
sounds by listening to the album just once, it just doesn't work well, it
comes off sounding very tame.
im just quite dissapointed because i was really looking forward to this
album for a long time, i was expecting something more groundbreaking,
considering who was involved in the project.

either way.
at least the new autechre is still really good, and so is the guineo 12"
on CI...

oh and the new bungle album comes out next week. ;)
and i get to go patton and his freaks play the same day, and The Kids of
Widney High are opening! im going to hell for seeing this show live, i know
it. just in case nobody knows who The KIds of Widney High are: about 8 to
12 mentally retarded kids that put out a album a couple of years ago of them
singing songs about getting a car and cleaning the kitchen and putting on
their socks and pants (you get the idea). and for some strange reason, mike
patton thought it would be great if they started off their tour in SF with
"the kids" opening up for them.
like i said, im going to hell for this one.

sorry that had nothing to do with idm (well, mr. bungle has some strong ties
with john zorn, and i heard zorn is actually banging on some random shit on
the new album, whoopee)

well, this has nothing to idm either, but anyway...
...heres the problem i was having yesterday--when i checked out the drum
after making a copy... it was coated with a wide band (or entirely) with
toner.
i found out that the inter-image lamp (that phosphorescent strip above the
drum cartridge) is not lighting. this lamp is there to discharge the drum
between copies when the exposure lamp is off. if it's failing (or a section
of it is failing)... the drum remains charged. this wastes an enormous
amount of toner and perhaps worse... the reclaim fills up quick and the
machine calls for a new drum cartridge. In the 5012/14, 5011 the cartridge
life is not determined by the filling up of the reclaim... instead you get a
mess of spilled toner (and broken gears). Make sure to take note of how many
wires come from the inter-image lamp (they made them with 2, 3, & 4 wire
varieties).
and remember, a little knowledge is a good thing.

i am a copier.
                                           we are not all copiers.
