Some new releases from norwegian artists: Magick A: Lemon, Saab 96 and a book CD (April) Melodic ambient drum'n'bass ala Alec Reese with elements of electro and a touch of house. Those Norwegians: Da Kingue D'Mazda 10" (Paper) Original version and remix of one of the dopiest trax on the "Karminsky Park" CD. Mental Overdrive: About Jazz CDS (Virgin) ...or perhaps "About Time"? Finally a lifesign from the "grand old man" of norwegian techno. Not as much distortion as he used to, but plenty of cool technology. Engineered by Danny Briotet from Renegade Soundwave. Palace Of Pleasure: Emperor Norton CD (dBut) Second CD from Norways leading dubtechno-band. "For fans of instrumental hip-hop, joyful afro-pop, threatening techno, horrible funk, testosteronfilled guitar solos and sloppy rhythms." Various: Igloo CD (dBut) Jazzy instrumental hiphop (or "tribop, nohop" as the cover states), with contributions from a.o. Nood, El Sultaan (members of the up-and-coming Perculator), Sternklang's alter ego Percussion Force, and Phileas Fog's alter ego Paron Soda. But the real goodie is the illegal remix" of Oasis' Wonderwall, into a frenetic drum'n'bass monster!! This CD is now pulled back (on demand from Oasis' record company), but I have a few copies left. Various: Arctic Circles - a collection of sub zero soundscapes CD(Beatservice) A compilation of exclusive tracks from the leading norwegian ambient/electronica acts, a "tour de force" of the arctic scene. 3/5 in latest Mixmag. Those Norwegians: Karminsky Park CD (97 Paper) Sleazy and funky disco house from those madmen behind Alania, Drum Island, Volcano, etc etc Various: Det Norske Hus CD (dBut) A compilation based around the exciting musical scene in the alternative art suburb Grunerlokka in Oslo. Sternklang contributes with his usual relaxed funky drum'n'bass (also under the Percussion Force name), and Sketch contributes with a tribute to the Hale Bopp comet. A refreshing collection, ranging from triphopjungledub to ambient dub. STERNKLANG: Freestylespacefunk CD (Beatservice) "...yet another triumph in rather unique, electronic sound sculpting for the world's most northernly outpost." Muziq.
