From James Sent Mon, Dec 29th 1997, 21:55
I hope you all got a nice mint Joyrex picdisc in your stockings last week.
1997 was a pretty good year for me and music.
Five random ups:
- Listening to a lot of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Herbie Hancock for
the
first time.
- Successfully continuing my global quest for any and all Black Dog
releases.
Thanks to Henrik, Stuart, Lance, John, Mark, Chris, and others who helped.
And
often got rich in the process, I must say. ;)
- Death in Vegas. They're sadly missing from the '97 poll, but then again I
forgot to nominate them.
- AMP. Most of the videos smelled, but there were some real gems.
- South Park. Non-IDM but oh well.
Five random downs:
- The frequent suckage of jungle comps & albums.
- Missing Underworld live at the Fillmore. (Err... that was this year,
wasn't
it?)
- Notable absence of giant teddy bears (and RDJ) at CyberFest 3.
- Not going to London for Christmas, for several reasons including fear of
bankruptcy once I'm done trainspotting for two weeks.
- All the namecalling and needless whining on IDM. At least nobody's posting
every thirty seconds about updates to their webpages.
Many thanks to all the kind people who spent the time and the effort to put
up
those MPEG-3 / RA files. And to those who posted extensive and helpful
discogs
and reviews.
Cheers,
